Our values and beliefs influence our behaviour. Through making explicit our values and beliefs we are taking the first step to making them a reality in our work, practice and workplace.
Values clarification exercises are frequently used for developing a common shared vision and purpose. They can be used for developing a common vision across a wide range of issues, such as developing strategic directions for different purposes, for effective team working or for the development of role definitions.
Putting values and beliefs into practice involves overcoming a number of barriers which exist in ourselves and in our workplaces. Dismantling these barriers and recognising the gaps between what we say we believe, what we say we do and what we actually do is central to empowering development practice.
